“Red”: 3.5/5

This past weekend, I took advantage of my parents’ real jobs and positive net worth by making them accompany me to Red, an awesome action flick starring Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich and Helen Mirren as ex-CIA operatives who used to kick some serious ass prior to progressing to mediocre lives as typical retirees.

Willis plays Frank Moses, who finds himself in love with ¬†Sarah Ross (played by a much younger-looking¬†Mary-Louise Parker), a lonely woman who works in a call center. Early one morning, Moses finds himself the target of an attempted elimination by what turns out to be the CIA. He drives to pick up (and kidnap) Sarah, then connects with the rest of his old crew; Joe Matheson (played by an always-badass Freeman), charming Victoria (Mirren), and hilarious eccentric Marvin Boggs (Malkovich). The team is being chased by a team led by William Cooper–Star Trek‘s Karl Urban who is hott…with two ‘t’s–a CIA yes-man.

The film is exciting, funny and full of quirky moments and adventure. Not as awesome as anticipated considering the cast, and somewhat predictable, but overall a great film.

3.5/5.
